FAQ: Common Questions about Counseling
When should I seek counseling?
A good indicator of when you should seek counseling is if you are having problems in essential areas in your life. Important areas may include work, health and wellbeing, relationships and mental focus.
Is counseling right for me?
This is a safe place for you to talk. Take time for yourself and explore what is causing you difficulty, ways you can reduce the impact these concerns have on your daily life, and how to improve your relationships with others. You and your counselor will determine the frequency and duration of care based on your goals for counseling.
Who are professional counselors?
Licensed professional counselors have a masters or doctoral degree in counseling and provide quality mental health and substance abuse care. Professional counselors have significant experience in their field which includes coursework in human behavior and development, effective research-based counseling strategies, and ethical practice. In order to practice independently (without the supervision of another counselor) a counselor must complete (1) practicum (2) counseling internship plus (3) two years of clinical experience under an experienced, licensed counselor. State licensure boards supervise the training criteria and required ongoing training (continuing education is required for the renewal of a license) of counselors practicing in the state of North Dakota.
How much does counseling cost?
The cost of counseling and therapy can vary greatly depending on the service. If this is a concern for you, your counselor will help you understand your options and make a referral if more cost-effective care is available.
Is counseling covered by my insurance?
Most insurance companies offer mental health coverage. We are in-network with many plans including BCBS ND, BCBS MN, Health Partners, Heartland Network, Noridian Health, PreferredOne, and Sanford Health. If Conscious Living Counseling is not part of your network, you may need an out-of-network referral from your primary care physician. More plans accepted, please call your insurance carrier or our office if you have any questions.
